Bonnie Bastian, PT

Outside of work I love to hike, kayak, snowshoe, garden, and try to get together with our three grown “boys” whenever I can.

I am active in my church where I serve in the music ministry. We also travel back to Michigan regularly to visit family and play on the big lake.

Joined Lighthouse 2015 – 7 years

My introduction to physical therapy was during my teens when I was recruited as home program assistant for each of my parents as they dealt with several different pain issues. I was intrigued by the process of helping the body heal and restore function. I volunteered at the local hospital physical therapy department and that, coupled with a love of biology and anatomy – because they   answered my ever present questions of “how and why” – clinched my career choice.

I graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1983, moved to New Hampshire in 1988 and have worked in inpatient and outpatient, orthopedic, general rehabilitation and home care settings over the years. Manual therapy has always been a part of my approach to treatment as it was fairly strongly included in our college curriculum but my introduction to IMT came after we moved to NH. I worked with an MD who was also a naturopath and utilized multiple alternative therapies to help people who had “failed” traditional treatments for resolving pain and limitations. That opened a whole new level of “how and why” questions for me and I found the IMT approach so valuable and amazing.

Outside of work I love to hike, kayak, snowshoe, garden and try to get together with our three now grown “boys” whenever I can. I am active in my church where I serve in the music ministry. We also travel back to Michigan regularly to visit family and play on the big lake.

I’ve been a PT for 32 years but still thoroughly enjoy the ongoing learning process involved in puzzling out and unraveling the barriers to physical healing; of seeing how mechanically intricate and artfully interconnected the human body is designed. It is a privilege and a joy to be able to participate in helping people restore balance and function in their bodies and thus their quality of life.
